There has not been much development since its release. It Crashes all the time! The AU version seem to be the most stable.
BFD3 VS SUPERIOR DRUMMER 3 PRO
I have SSD4 and from my experience its very buggy on Pro Tools (AAX) as well as the VST version. Just like with EZdrummer, SD3 allows for loads of expansion packs. Lastly, Superior Drummer 3 also allows you to drag-and-drop drum audio tracks into the Tracker window to identify hits, replace sounds or convert entire drum tracks to MIDI. I have a buddy that is an awesome drummer so he creates my final tracks on his electronic kit monitoring with Superior then sending me MIDI which we run back thru Superior most times.Īlways looking for new and improved and wondered what I might be missing with Slate. Toontrack has also made transferring presets from EZdrummer 2 to Superior Drummer extremely easy. I usually lay out in EZ drummer and convert to Superior for my original programming. Masque is spot on regarding EZ Drummer getting songs fired up in a hurry and Superior, to me, is just a good overall package. MIDI on NI Studio Drummer is light years ahead of Superior and BFD sounds are raw and realistic. I find that each program has it's strong points. It contains defined mappings between MIDI notes and these entities along with a number of other parameters for specialized types of control, especially with electronic drum trigger hardware. Not wanting for anything except maybe the new 'Big Rock Drums'. A Key Map allows you to play BFD3s Drum articulations and Grooves with MIDI notes. I have a ton of expansions for both Superior and EZ Drummer already. I also highly recommend picking up the "blackbird" library if you do get the slate. You can't go wrong with any of these and at the prices he is offering I would still recommend getting it even if you use it occasionally because at some point it will be the perfect tool. One cool feature I do really like about slate is that you can go inside the settings and tell if to match up with toontrack midifiles and you can create your drums inside ez drummer and then save that midi file and use inside slate with those sounds with no mapping issues. With tap to find and song creator it's hands down better. I give the ease of programming drums for a song to ez drummer in a landslide. I give the edge in quality of sounds to superior. If you choose Power hand Ride, Jazz and Latin grooves are grayed out. On Superior Drummer 3, if you go to Jazz category, there are no groove options with a ride cymbal. They have a lot more than what Superior offers. My main reasoning for that is mostly due to the large number of midi files available with toontrack and the fact they work for both superior and ez drummer. One big advantage I found with BFD 3 is the amount of grooves and fills they provide.

I work mostly on Rock, Pop Rock, r&b, Latin and Im looking for more modern snares with a nice crack something similar to the rogers snare in superior 2.0. 2 Platinum Samples Joe Barresi Evil Drums. However, slate would be my least favorite of the three but that's not saying it isn't good I just prefer the other two. Attention to detail and musicality that has made the Toontrack.
